Posted by Kigoos Swim Club at Apr 8, 2023 12:21PM PDT

Welcome to Kigoos Summer 2023!

We are so excited to have your family joining the club this year. Please read below for some important information as our summer season approaches.

  • Registration is now closed, and we are excited that our summer program has sold out!
  • Save the date! On Friday, April 28 from 6-7pm we will be holding an important Parent Information Session about the season. This session is for all Kigoos families (new and existing) and will count for 1 hour of your parent volunteer time. Please plan for at least one parent from each family to attend. The session will be held at the Steveston Community Centre in the Multi-purpose Room. The information shared at this meeting will be helpful in understanding the summer season. Questions about swim meets, volunteer hours, training and more will be addressed.
  • Parent Participation Cheques of $500 should be received by April 30 to the mailbox at #10-4388 Moncton Street, Richmond, BC, V7E 6R9. Cheques will only be cashed if the required parent volunteer hours are not completed by the end of the season. Families can also plan to bring their cheque to the Parent Information Night on April 28!
  • Our coaches and board are hard at work finalizing the practice schedule and initial group placements. The schedule and initial group lists will be available and emailed to families soon, likely by mid-April. All practices in May are at Steveston Pool. All groups will have at least one practice time daily Monday to Friday, with some groups practicing twice a day and some groups additionally practicing on Saturday.
  • Practices will start on Monday, May 1st
  • Please Note – there is construction currently occurring for the new Steveston Library and Community Centre which is affecting parking. Please leave yourself extra time and/or have a plan for parking as there are fewer spots than normal.

We are looking forward to a fantastic season and can’t wait to see you at the pool soon!

Hello Kigoos!

We wanted to send out one last email to conclude our 2022 Summer Swim Season!

It was an exciting weekend in Kamloops, as our Provincial Qualifiers swam many amazing races! Congratulations to all our Kigoos who competed at Provincials, either individually, or as part of a relay team. A special congratulations goes out to our Kigoos who attended their first Provincial Championships. Thank you to the parents who helped volunteer at the meet, either as a timer, or as an official. We are also so grateful to our coaching staff who travelled to Kamloops to support our swimmers.

Our club placed 10th overall out of 54 clubs, and Fraser South placed 2nd! Great job Kigoos! Be sure to check out the photos on our Instagram page. Next year Provincials will take place in Nanaimo.

Volunteer Hours
We’ve had many questions about volunteer hours. Families are able to check their hours via Sign-up Genius. If you are concerned that your family has not met their volunteer hours for the season, please send an email to volunteers@kigoos.com. There will still be a few jobs as we finish out the season (regional awards, awards night, etc.) and we can add your name to our list of volunteers we reach out to first. Thank you to everyone for all your help and support this season. Our entire club is run by volunteers, and it really does take many hands to pull off a successful season.

Looking ahead
Registration for our Tsunami Winter Maintenance program will go live soon. An email will go out to current club members first. Tsunami will run on Saturdays/Sundays from the beginning of October until the end of April. Swimmers are able to train 2 hours/week to maintain their “S” status in the summer. Swimmers who train more than 2 hours/week will have to compete as an “O cat” swimmer next summer. If you have any questions, please don’t hesitate to reach out.

Our annual awards night will take place at the end of September (Date still to be confirmed). We are looking forward to celebrating the successes of the season with everyone!

Our AGM will also take place in October (Date to be confirmed). Please watch your email for information about these upcoming dates.

Finally, we hope all families enjoy the final few weeks of Summer vacation, and have a smooth start back to school. We are already looking forward to welcoming everyone back to Steveston Pool next Summer for our 2023 season (only 251 days away!)

See you at the pool!
