Posted by Kigoos Swim Club at May 11, 2022 8:19PM PDT ( 0 Comments )

It has been fantastic to see all the swimmers back in the Steveston Pool!

We are excited to kick off our competitive 2022 season on Saturday May 28th with our Mock Meet & Welcome Back Breakfast. The Mock Meet is the ideal time for our new swimmers to gain some valuable meet experience including understanding a Heat Sheet, marshalling, when to enter the water in a race and a chance to dive off the starting blocks! It is also a chance for our parents to learn some new volunteer positions and earn some volunteer hours. Most importantly, it is a chance to be together again as Club and have some fun!

The schedule for Saturday May 28th will be as follows:
6:45 Sign-in
7:00 Warm-Up and Cheers
7:30 First Race
9:00 Breakfast
10:00 Finished

The race schedule will be 50 Freestyle, 25 Freestyle, 50 Backstroke, 25 Backstroke, 50 Breaststroke and 50 Fly. All swimmers can swim up to 4 races. The 25M races are for our JD swimmers that are not yet swimming 50M races. The heats will be organized from JD – Senior.

We will also be having our annual Welcome Back Breakfast.

If you have swimmers interested in participating in the Mock Meet, please register each swimmer through the link below no later than Friday May 20th, 2022:

Calling All Volunteers

Posted by Kigoos Swim Club at May 4, 2022 9:05PM PDT ( 0 Comments )

Calling all volunteers!

If you are a family new to Kigoos or have been with the club for years – we need you!!

The past two years have been extremely challenging for youth sports and our Kigoos swim club is no exception. Many of our traditions were modified or suspended as our club executive worked to continue providing our swimmers with fun and safe summer seasons.

We are ready to bring back some favourite club traditions and even introduce new ones, but we need your help!

We are currently looking for a volunteer (or a pair of volunteers) to take on a leadership role in organizing the Food For Officials for our June 4th & June 5th Ice Breaker Meet. In this role, you will develop a menu for the event and organize a grocery list of required ingredients (previous menus have included wraps/sandwiches, coffee, water, two bite brownies etc.) You will have a team of volunteers working with you during the meet to help execute the plan.

We are also looking for a volunteer (or pair of volunteers) to organize some fundraising ideas for our Ice Breaker Meet (collecting items to create raffle baskets, organizing a 50/50 draw, finding sponsors interested in advertising in our heat sheet).

As you know, the club is run 100% by volunteer parents and we need everyone to get involved to make the 2022 season a success. If these volunteer experiences sound like something you can help with, please send an email to: volunteers@kigoos.com

If these are not your areas of expertise, do not worry! There will be more opportunities to get involved and complete your volunteer hours throughout the season including timing, officiating, marshalling, swim meet electronics operation, social event coordinating, photography/videography and fundraising. All the positions are learn as you go and you will always get a chance to watch your child race.

See you at the pool!

The Kigoos Board of Directors

Hello Kigoos!

We are only days away from being back at Steveston Pool and starting our 2022 Season! Please find attached our Summer Group List, as well as our May schedule. If you have a question about your child’s group placement please reach out to Coach Mike (headcoach@kigoos.com). Practices will start bright and early Monday morning for those groups scheduled! (May 2nd)

Any registered swimmers new to the club who did not attend the New Swimmer Assessment sessions in April have not been placed in groups yet. Swimmers in this situation are invited to attend an assessment session at Steveston Pool on Monday, May 2nd at 4:15pm. Swimmers will be placed in groups following this session.

All families should have received an invitation through Sign-Up Genius to attend our Kigoos Parent Information Meeting on Saturday, April 30th at 12:30 pm. This meeting will be held at Steveston Community Centre. We look forward to seeing you there! Any families that have not submitted their post-dated $500 volunteer cheque will be able to drop it off at the parent information meeting. Please note – volunteer cheques are to be submitted to the club registrar by May 1st.

Looking forward to welcoming you back to the pool!
